JOB DESCRIPTION
With an ambitious growth plan to expand Aspire!’s services to more students than ever in the coming years, as well as to build-out a new program site, Aspire! seeks a development professional to strengthen and build on its resource generation activities. In collaboration with Aspire! leadership, the Director of Development (DoD) will lead annual fund / general operations efforts as well as spearheading the final phase of Aspire!’s in-progress capital campaign.
The Director of Development is a full-time position based on a 40 hour/week schedule.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The DoD reports directly to the Executive Director and will interface regularly with Aspire!’s Board of Directors, including coordinating Board efforts and providing reports. The position receives grants management support from Aspire!’s Assistant Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fundraising Infrastructure and Strategy:
Strategically refine/update and manage Aspire!’s development plan
Develop and lead general appeal strategy, including research, outreach, cultivation, and solicitation among individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
Develop and manage fundraising event strategy
Ensure cohesion across Aspire!’s development efforts and social media activities
Lead final phase of capital campaign strategy, including strong coordination with general appeal efforts
Develop and lead general donor stewardship strategy to increase donor engagement
Track prospects and analyze trends using Aspire!’s donor management system (Bloomerang)
- Fundraising Implementation
Conduct initial donor outreach based on prospect research
Support board members and other volunteer fundraisers in all aspects of donor prospecting, outreach, cultivation and solicitation
Cultivate and secure single and multi-year gifts from mid- and major-donor prospects
Develop and manage appeals, including solicitation letters
Create and submit grant proposals
Plan and implement annual event
Manage and implement donor gift acknowledgement and stewardship plans
- Community Outreach and Education
Plan for regular tours/engagement opportunities for prospective donors and advocates in the community
Attend and represent Aspire! at community events and meetings
- Communications and Marketing
Develop annual communications plan to include print, web, and social media strategies in support of development initiatives and to promote Aspire!’s brand in the community.
- Program Support
Provide direct support to youth-serving programs as needed (<15% of time and effort).
Interface regularly with volunteers as part of donor cultivation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of direct fundraising experience to include identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual and corporate donors.
- Strong self-starter, ability to work independently, confident in cultivating new donors and making asks
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written; able to communicate Aspire!’s mission and goals to various audiences
- Experience working collaboratively with leadership, including Board of Directors
- Excellent organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple projects, strong follow-through
- Team player; positive attitude
